The B List: Fashion edition
Welcome to the B List: Fashion edition.
instaA curation of B Corp brands making the world better and doing it in style.
If you’re not familiar, a B Corp is a company that meets the highest standards of social and environmental standards, gained through going through the illustrious yet infamous B Corp assessment and accreditation process.
Brands undertake the mission to get their hands on that juicy big B that we see displayed on windows, the back of popcorn packets, and, of course, on the swing tags when we get to go and touch and feel things in store.
It’s hard to say that any fashion brand is sustainable, it is an industry that is inherently bad for the environment, but bad comes in many forms and many guises, and choosing to be good in such conditions takes guts, gusto, and grace,
For the brands that make it, the reward is clear, but the work is only just beginning. That B signifies constant growth and change, a willingness to be humble, and a journey where you can’t even see the destination.
So, that being said, it is no easy task, and this marks a series of B List features to share and show the brands that made the commitment, are doing the work, and are doing it in style.
Let’s get into it.
These are our favourite fashion brands that are part of the iconic B List, so whether you want to shop more consciously, invest in pieces that are designed to last, or discover some new favourites, then dive on in.
Mulberry
One of the most iconic and well-known British brands, with so much heritage and history, Mulberry is B Corp certified and on a continuous journey to keep their pieces in circulation and to create responsibly. In 2021 they launched their Made to Last Manifesto with a focus on regenerative business and circular design, with a firm commitment to both people and planet. Bonus points for it being one of the Effable favourites, with timeless design and extraordinary craftsmanship.
Storytime - Effable founder, Molly, has quite the collection of Mulberry bags, but one of the latest editions was spotted in the M&S Cafe. She hunted a lady down to compliment her on her Blenheim, and then proceeded to conduct an hour-long digital hunt for The Bag. She got it (one of her special talents, go figure) and now it resides happily with the others in her home.
Chloe
Iconic in every sense of the word, and even more so under the direction and leadership of Chemena Kamali. Chloe has a vision to create beautiful pieces that have a lasting impact, with strong roots in feminism, systemic change, and fashion for a cause. Focussed on advancing women for a fairer future since its inception in 1952, Chloe’s B Corp certification underpins what they have always stood for, but perhaps we haven’t always known about. Caring is Chic, pass it on.
With Nothing Underneath
One of the newer brands on our line up, founded in 2017 with one clear mission to create the perfect bitton down for women. Spoiler, they succeeded. As a B Corp, their focus is on sustainable sourcing and transparency, which is so often overlooked in the fashion industry. We love their timeless design and classic styles, along with the playfulness of the brand that can only feel genuine when it’s rooted in purpose. J’adore.
Sezane
Production that honours planet and people, Sezane is one of the most timeless brands and, hailing from France, it is known for flattering cuts, quality construction, and pieces that are designed to last a lifetime. Gorgeous collections that are seasonal and slow, their B Corp is embedded from the fabric to the fit - how divine.
Good American
A B Corp denim brand? It is possible. Good American is the brainchild of Emma Grede and Khloe Kardashion, and has been a B Corp since 2022. The brand is rooted in female empowerment, with strong ambitions in the resource conservation area of the assessment to make the impact of denim less harmful, wasteful, and damaging. The brand’s ethos is about denim that fits every woman and every body, with the full size range US 00-32) stocked in every outlet, true inclusivity.
Finisterre
It would be remiss of us not to include Finisterre. A brand that is circular at its centre (pun intended) and something that started as a very practical brand that has slowly morphed into something that echoes the life we want to lead. Embodying slowness, the sea, and time spent in Nature, Finisterre crafts pieces that are designed to last and look good, too. One of the first B Corps in the UK when it came over back in 2015, their lived and loved repar programme is one of the beacons and case studies for circular fashion and how brands can tap into that movement with their customers.
Vestiaire Collective
The most iconic destination for pre-loved fashion, Vestiaire Collective is a firm favourite. What feels like a curated collection, designed to make secondhand sexy, and they do it so, so well. Launched in Paris (but of course) in 2009, Vestiaire is comitted to making the world better through circular fashion and giving pieces new leases of life. We’ll drink to that.
Our next feature will be on food and drink, so gather the B’s and rally the troops, because your Ocado and DELLI baskets are going to be filled to the brim when we have finished. Happy exploring, and let us know which B Corps are in your favourites folder.
Effable is a proud B Corp.
