Four ways to cleanse your energy at your desk

The desk rituals to cleanse and reset your energy at work

Energy can get stuck , get stagnant, and struggle to move. This can be for a whole range of different reasons but it’s common at work, especially with those of us who are empaths, have outward facing roles, or creation based roles for a brand - whether you founded it or you’re part of the team.

Whatever the reason, it can leave us feeling like we’ve never had a creative idea in our lives, like we’re struggling to get started, or like we just can’t focus. Those are just a few and if any of those are feeling familiar, then maybe these desk rituals can lend a helping hand.

None of them are elaborate, some of them require a little more woo than others, but they’re all available to put in your cosmic back pocket to come back to whenever you need.

Aura shower

This one is a real body-based technique that should leave you feeling supported and held while you cleanse - perfect.

How: You’re going to get yourself in a grounded position, feet planted on the ground and shoulders drawn back and down - spine straight. Close your eyes if you can or soften the gaze down to the desk.

Spend a few moments steadying your breathing focussing on a longer inhale and longer exhale than you usually would. Really take the time to steady and settle here. Then take your palms together and start rubbing them. Getting faster and keeping that contact, generating heat and energy between the palms. When you feel like they’re toasty, separate the hands and place them both on the crown of your head.

Pause here.

Repeat and place the palms on the back of the neck, then the shoulders (you can cross your arms for this one, then the chest and heart space. Once you have finished, pause back with the breath and feel the new energy flowing through the body, opening your eyes and readjusting back to the world.

You might need a stretch or a yawn after this one.

Four part breath

One that is less overt and more inward, the four part breath is a gentle way to ground and reconnect while bringing your energy back home to yourself.

How: Get settled, get comfy, uncross your legs and arms to allow the energy to flow. For this one, you’re simply going to breathe in for four, hold for four, breathe out for four, and hold for four before repeating the process. You will want to complete around 10 rounds of this or more to soothe your energy and soul back to its grounded state. You can do this one eyes open or eyes closed and you can pop on some relaxing music if that will help you keep in rhythm. Be present for the process and allow your shoulders to drop, brow to soften, and tongue to relax in the mouth. Enjoy.

Move through it

Stagnant energy gets caught and stuck in the body. It can make us feel sluggish, unmotivated, and generally a bit flat. Moving that energy physically through the body is one of the best cleansing rituals you can do.

How: Literally any way you like, but here are some ideas. You will need to be comfortable having a move around at your desk. You can get up and swing your arms around, have a little shimmy, stick a song on and have a literal dance - or - if you’re not quite feeling the peacock energy, get up, walk around, and just go and stretch your legs. Without phone or agenda, just getting things moving again.

The lost art of desk dancing -

At a previous job, we had desk dancing which was a way to indicate one of us wanted a cup of tea. You’d get up and start dancing, the last one to join in made the brews - perfect. But also a great energy reset and to get the body moving again after sitting like a prawn for two hours writing.

Smoke it out

An ancient technique used to cleanse energy and restore balance, smudging or smoke cleansing is a practice that gives you a moment of calm and an instant reset - perfect for a rebalancing act.

How: You will need either a sage stick, salo santo, or an incense stick and, crucially, no smoke detector directly above your head - and willing desk pals.

Light your chosen item, and you’re going to let the smoke circle you. Move the stick over your arms and around your head to get to your crown chakra, and, for good measure, you can cleanse your computer and desk space, too. Take this process slowly, indulging in every little moment and making sure you catch all of the corners and spaces you want to cleanse.

Our favourites -

The Aesop incense sticks or ethically sourced sage sticks for that extra boost of calm energy - divine.

Save these practices for a rainy day and use them when you need to cleanse, reset, and realign. If you want to go a layer deeper, you can listen to our meditation for grounding here, and our breathwork for clearing here.
