A sense of ceremony

Ceremonies to make the everyday feel more ritualistic than routine.

The alarm goes off and we’re into another day. Stretch, wash, dress, keys, workout, shower, desk, begin.

Your routine might be similar, or maybe yours has more too for pause, but once that morning is done and when we find ourselves at the desk and ready to work, autopilot might take the reins, but what if we added more ritual into our routines?

Moments of pause, a chance to reset, and an opportunity to savour the small tasks and to revel in the big ones, here’s some ways to find that sense of ceremony.

An opening and a closing

Open the space, either with a moment of meditation, a cleanse or a sage, or anything else that feels like ceremony to you. From a dance party to shake the stagnant energy, to a quiet five of journaling, pick your poison, and make it feel juicy. The same goes for closing down the space. When you complete a task or project, close off the energy before moving straight onto the next thing. A ritual, a rite of passage.

A grateful heart

Before you jump head first into the task or to do list, hold a moment of gratitude. Small, but mighty, be thankful for the hustle and the bustle, the busyness and the progress, and thankful to yourself for just how far you have come.

A signature scent

A candle, an essential oil, a fragrance, or a signature incense that burns to get you into the zone, into the mood, into the now. We know the power of scent; how it transports us to places, spaces, and emotional states, so why don’t we invite that in for our creative practices, too?

An incantation for magic

Words hold both magic and meaning, and an incantation, a set of words said or cast like a spell, could be the piece of ritualism that your day needs. Speak kindly, speak loudly, and tell the universe what you want. Speak it out, don’t bottle it up, and be intentional with your language, words, and magic.
